Amazon Prime Video launches free ad-supported tier in UK
Amazon has expanded its free streaming tier to UK customers, offering hundreds of films and classic series at no cost.
Amazon has rolled out its free ad-supported streaming tier to the United Kingdom, following the service's successful launch in the United States. UK viewers without a Prime subscription can now access a curated library of hundreds of films, classic television series, and selected older Amazon Originals — completely free, supported by occasional light ad breaks.
What's included in the free tier
The free catalogue includes older seasons of flagship Amazon Originals such as The Boys (Seasons 1–2), Reacher Season 1, and a rotating selection of licensed Hollywood titles. Ad frequency is approximately 4 minutes per hour — significantly lighter than competitors like Tubi. No credit card or registration is required beyond a standard Amazon account.
Prime subscribers retain the full premium ad-free experience unchanged. Amazon confirmed the free tier is available on all major platforms including Smart TVs, Fire TV, iOS, and Android. The company sees this as a gateway to convert casual viewers into full Prime members, with an in-app upgrade prompt available at any time.
