📝 Full Review

Overview

The Samsung QN90D Neo QLED 4K (2024) represents the pinnacle of Mini LED LCD television technology. The NQ4 AI Gen2 processor drives real-time AI upscaling of any content, and the Mini LED backlight delivers peak brightness exceeding 2,000 nits — among the highest of any consumer TV. This is the definitive choice for sports fans and gamers who need extreme brightness and impeccable motion.

Neo QLED Picture Quality

Mini LED backlighting gives the QN90D exceptional control over local dimming zones, producing deep blacks for an LCD TV while maintaining outstanding highlight brightness. Combined with Quantum Dot, colours cover 100% of the DCI-P3 space and are precisely calibrated. The NQ4 AI Gen2 processor uses scene recognition to detect whether content is a movie, sports broadcast, or gaming session, adjusting picture settings automatically.

Gaming: The Real Strength

All four HDMI 2.1 ports support 4K at 144Hz with VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode). Measured input lag of ~9.9ms in Game Mode is exceptional for a premium TV. PS5 and Xbox Series X users get the full next-gen gaming experience. The Gaming Hub connects directly to Xbox Game Pass, GeForce NOW, and Amazon Luna without a separate box.

One Notable Limitation

The QN90D does not support Dolby Vision — Samsung uses its own HDR10+ format exclusively. For streaming services that master exclusively in Dolby Vision, this is a real limitation compared to OLED alternatives.

Verdict

At ~€1,499 for the 55", the Samsung QN90D is one of the best Mini LED TVs available. If you prioritise brightness, sports, and gaming over the deepest possible blacks, this is your TV.
